[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Better Life Bags was started by Rebecca Smith as a hobby. She designed and sewed together her own diaper bag while she was pregnant with her first child. Soon her friends started placing orders for her to make them bags as well. She created an Etsy shop and within 2 years sales grew to the point where she could no longer keep up with the demand herself, so she enlisted the help of her neighbors.

Rebecca lived in a low income area of Detroit and a lot of her neighbors were first generation immigrants living in poverty. The women of the families wanted to contribute to the financial needs of the family but had natural roadblocks to employment; language, culture, lack of education and caring for small children. But sewing bags from their own homes was a natural fit.

The money that her neighbors were earning for sewing Better Life Bags began to transform their lives. They were able to buy basic needs for their families and invest in education.

This business is unique not only because of their mission and business model but also because of their custom design process. Their website is interactive, so you can choose your fabric choice, leather color, hardware finish and a variety of add-on options to create the perfect bag just for you.

Bags come in a variety of sizes and styles like the Clara Tote Bag for $118, the Nadia for $252 or the Ashley Cross Bag for $168.

But whatever bag you choose you are supporting a network of women working together for a Better Life for all.
