Booomers International is a social enterprise based in Ghana that makes handmade bamboo bike frames that are unique, environmentally sustainable, and beautiful. Making these bamboo bicycles in their factory in Apaah, Ghana provides on-the-job training and sustainable employment to over 50 people in rural Ghana and provides indirect employment for over 200 farmers that cultivate and harvest the bamboo for the bicycles.
Bamboo is a fantastic lightweight and shockproof material, making it an ideal frame for use and for storage but also environmentally conscious. It is not cut down like trees because it is technically a grass, so the necessary lengths are cut but the bamboo continues to grow and remove carbon dioxide from the air. Even the epoxy is a plant-based eco-resin and local sisal is used for strong, durable joints. Besides the bike frames they also make other bamboo accessories like baskets and bike stands.

The JeltX belt by Jelt is a one-size fits all eco-friendly belt made from recycled plastic bottles in Montana, USA, that also gives back to the environment, veterans, and children. It has a flat magnetic closure, a grippy inner lining so you can wear it even without belt buckles, and has no metal parts so you can keep it on through airport security.
Besides repurposing plastic bottles destined for the ocean or a landfill, Jelt also gives back in multiple other ways. They are a member of 1% for the Planet contributing 1% of annual sales to environmental causes. They support Veterans by donating a portion of annual sales to Warriors and Quiet Waters Foundation, which helps heal American combat vets with the serenity of fly-fishing in Montana. And Jelt donates a portion from every belt’s sale to help children succeed through the THRIVE program.

It’s not often that we come across a financial industry product that gives back to a good cause but we found one in the Radius Bank Superhero Checking Account. Each month Radius matches all interest earned on the account plus 1% of your total debit card purchases and donates that amount to March of Dimes. March of Dimes is a nonprofit that works to improve the health of pregnant women and babies throughout the pregnancy and beyond. While it’s not a flashy or cool product, we all need a checking account so if you are going to get one, maybe a checking account that gives back to more than just the bank is worth a look.

After the Rwandan genocide in 1995 the country was left 70% female. Women were left to pick up the pieces of their shattered country. Artisans who were skilled in cultural traditions united to create jewelry, home goods, accessories and clothing. These co-ops were turning out beautiful handmade products but had no way to get them to global market. That’s where Indego Africa steps in.
